Automobiles in Germany's City Discovered Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Report
Area Police
Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then located numerous other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials state early analysis suggest the substance was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; investigators are presently not informed of any harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to solve the case" and have appealed to the residents for details.
An important political figure stated the incident left him without words and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
